Thursday 30/09 – BEIS opens a consultation on the current arrangements for trading electricity on power exchanges in the GB wholesale electricity market to support efficient cross-border trading.

Wednesday 29/09 – Ofgem announces that ENSTROGA, Igloo Energy and Symbio Energy are exiting the market.

Tuesday 28/09 – The government launches a consultation for a new, long-term regime for windfarm development and offshore transmission.

Monday 27/09 – The Labour party announces it would spend an extra £28bn a year on making the UK economy more "green" if it wins power. BEIS publishes an open consultation Combined heat and power: pathway to decarbonisation call for evidence. Ofgem appoints Shell Energy as the Supplier of Last Resort (SoLR) for Green Supplier’s.


Friday 17/09 – The BEIS Committee commences its inquiry on net zero governance, focusing on the leadership and co-ordination which will be needed by government to deliver on the UK’s commitment to reach net zero by 2050.

Thursday 16/09 – Appointment of Rt Hon Greg Hands MP to Minister of State at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. Members of the House of Lords concluded their further examination of the Environment Bill in report stage.

Wednesday 15/09 – Fire at IFA interconnector leads to 1,000MW being unavailable until 27 March 2022. Scottish government announces new Just Transition Commission is to be established to ensure a fair net zero transition in Scotland.

Tuesday 14/09 – Utility Point and People’s Energy exit the market.

Monday 13/09 – BEIS confirms that the Contract for Difference scheme will receive an additional £265mn in funding. Green Gas Levy regulations were laid before Parliament. Welsh government announces plans to create the first UK long-term integrated energy grid for net zero.


Friday 03/09 – CBI Scotland calls on the SNP to use its forthcoming Programme for Government to make good on their election promise to ‘put the economy first’. Ofgem issues a consultation seeking views on the content of the Electricity System Operator’s Business Plan Guidance.

Thursday 02/09 – The government publishes a revised approach to valuing greenhouse gas emissions in policy appraisal, following a cross-government review during 2020 and 2021.

Wednesday 01/09 – Ahead of the UK’s hosting of COP26, Energy Systems Catapult sets out seven recommendations in a new report for the UK to show decarbonisation policy leadership at the climate conference. Following investigation, the Competition and Markets Authority clears National Grid’s acquisition of Western Power Distribution.
