Friday 29/10 – Ofgem announces that seven suppliers had been issued final and provisional orders compelling them to pay £17.9mn worth of Renewables Obligation payments

Thursday 28/10 – Ofgem announces plans to consult on the price cap methodology to ensure it reflects the current costs, risks and uncertainties facing suppliers.

Wednesday 27/10 – The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, delivers the government’s Autumn Budget and Spending Review which builds upon the commitments made in the recent Net Zero Strategy.

Tuesday 26/10 – Climate Change Committee (CCC) issues an independent assessment of the UK’s recently released Net Zero Strategy. Governments announces Regulated Asset Base (RAB) model as an option to fund future nuclear projects.

Monday 25/10 – National Energy Action (NEA) calls on the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, to help more vulnerable households through the winter.


Friday 22/10 – The UK government announces it will call on the world’s leading democracies to work together to build greener and more resilient global supply chains.

Thursday 21/10 – Ofgem appoints Shell Energy Retail as the Supplier of Last Resort (SoLR) for GOTO Energy. The UK government publishes its programme of Presidency events for COP26.

Wednesday 20/10 – The International Energy Agency (IEA) finds that G7 members are well placed to fully decarbonise their electricity supply by 2035.

Tuesday 19/10 – BEIS publishes the UK’s Net Zero Strategy and HM Treasury publishes its Net Zero Review Final Report alongside several other documents. The government publishes its response to the Committee on Climate Change’s (CCC) 2020 progress report.

Monday 18/10 – The government outlines its new Heat and Buildings Strategy. GOTO Energy exits the market.


Friday 15/10 – The government reveals that more than £5.8bn of foreign investment in green projects has been secured since the launch of the Prime Minister’s Ten Point Plan, along with at least 56,000 jobs in the UK’s clean industries.

Thursday 14/10 – Daligas exits the market. HM Treasury announces that, G7 Finance Ministers agreed to work together to consider how best to coordinate efforts on the pricing of carbon to mitigate emissions.

Wednesday 13/10 –The IEA publishes its World Energy Outlook 2021.

Tuesday 12/10 – Pure Planet and Colorado Energy exit the market. In a speech at UNESCO, Paris, Alok Sharma says that the world must honour the promises made in Paris six years ago at COP26.

Monday 11/10 – Ofgem approves Market-Wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS) Implementation and Governance Arrangements.


Friday 08/10 – BEIS announces it is seeking views on a proposed approach to deliver heat network zoning in England and to identifying areas where heat networks are the most appropriate solution for decarbonising heating.

Thursday 07/10 – BEIS officially reveals plans to decarbonise UK power system by 2035. Scotland publishes its Heat in Buildings Strategy.

Wednesday 06/10 – The Prime Minister Boris Johnson reaffirms commitments for the country to reach net zero by 2050.

Tuesday 05/10 – Shell Energy Retail Limited publishes its report and financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2020, reporting turnover of £856.2mn, up from £832mn in 2019.

Monday 04/10 – BEIS publishes a consultation seeking views on further technical and clarificatory drafting changes to the Contracts for Difference (CfD) Standard Terms and Conditions ahead of Allocation Round 4 (AR4). Ofgem gave notice that it has appointed E.ON Next as the Supplier of Last Resort (SoLR) for the customers of ENSTROGA, Igloo Energy and Symbio Energy.


Friday 01/10 – Ofgem publishes notices of proposals to issue final orders compelling five suppliers to pay a total of £7,004,345 in outstanding Renewables Obligations (RO) payments.
