Friday 17/12 – BEIS opens a consultation titled Climate Change Agreements (CCAs): proposals for a future scheme.

Thursday 16/12 – BEIS publishes its BEIS Public Attitudes Tracker (PAT): Autumn 2021 statistics.

Wednesday 15/12 – Ofgem issues a call for input on how the default tariff price cap methodology could be made more resilient to extreme commodity price volatility. Ofgem also publishes a call for input on its action plan on retail financial resilience and draft key outcomes, setting out the immediate actions that it intends to take.

Tuesday 14/12 – BEIS and Ofgem’s issue their annual joint annual Statutory Security of Supply Report providing an assessment of the availability of secure, affordable electricity and gas for meeting the needs of consumers.

Monday 13/12 – The government opens the fourth and biggest round of the Contracts for Difference scheme to date, aiming to secure 12GW of electricity capacity.


Friday 10/12 – Think tank Policy Exchange states that supplier failures this year have exposed significant weaknesses in Ofgem’s current approach to regulating the market.

Thursday 09/12 – The BEIS Committee announces the launch of an inquiry on Energy pricing and the future of the Energy Market. Citizens Advice announces that Ofgem failed to act against unfit energy suppliers for nearly a decade.

Wednesday 08/12 – ElectraLink announces that changes of energy supplier dropped to the lowest level since records began in 2012.

Tuesday 07/12 – The Climate Change Committee states that the Scottish government needs to start delivering on its climate promises. BEIS announces that the government will provide £116mn in new funding to support businesses developing green technologies.

Monday 06/12 – Ofgem publishes information regarding the redistribution of the Renewables Obligation (RO) scheme late payment fund of £58,375,203 to suppliers who presented Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROC) by 1 September deadline. BEIS publishes a consultation calling for evidence on the design and implementation of policies that can encourage the market for low emissions industrial products to grow. Secretary of State for Energy Kwasi Kwarteng writes to Ofgem and Distribution Network Operators about their role in providing compensation to customers affected by Storm Arwen.


Friday 03/12 – Ofgem gives notice that it has appointed EDF as the Supplier of Last Resort (SoLR) for the customers of Zog Energy.

Thursday 02/12 – BEIS publishes a speech by Minister Greg Hands on nuclear capacity and the UK net zero ambition at the Nuclear Industry Association annual conference 2021.

Wednesday 01/12 – Zog Energy ceases trading. BEIS publishes a response to views on its consultation to identify emerging generating technologies that may be eligible to participate in capacity market auctions.
