Tuesday 31/05 – BEIS announces that the government will invest over £31mn to support industry to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and lower carbon emissions.

Monday 30/05 – BEIS publishes the first full quarterly Expenditure Forecast Statement for the Green Gas Support Scheme (GGSS).


Friday 27/05 – COP26 President Alok Sharma speaks at the G7 Climate, Energy and Environment Ministerial press conference.

Thursday 26/05 – Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak delivers a cost-of-living support package to Parliament – outlining £15bn of new measures and an Energy Profits Levy.

Wednesday 25/05 – Ofgem approves UNC796 Revision to the Determination of National Grid NTS Target Revenue for Transportation Charging. The modification will revise the current arrangements for recovery of allowed revenue by National Grid Gas.

Tuesday 24/05 – Ofgem’s Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Brearley warns the typical household energy bill is expected to increase to £2,800 a year, due to continued volatility in gas prices.

Monday 23/05 – Ofgem publishes its decision to approve proposed updates to the guidance on the Operational Capability and Financial Responsibility principles. The updated guidance was previously consulted on as part of Ofgem’s wide-reaching action plan on retail financial resilience.


Friday 20/05 – BEIS Committee opens an inquiry into the government’s plans to decarbonise the UK’s power supply sector

Thursday 19/05 – The government announces the winners of its £60mn Low Carbon Hydrogen Supply 2 (HySupply 2) competition.

Wednesday 18/05 – International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan outlines how green trade is important to the UK’s economy and achieving net zero.

Tuesday 17/05 – The Scottish Government announces it will provide £100mn in funding to help public bodies reduce emissions through its Scottish Central Government Energy Efficiency Grant scheme.

Monday 16/05 – Ofgem publishes two consultations in relation to the price cap methodology in response to the recent increase in wholesale prices and volatility.


Friday 13/05 – BEIS publishes the first part of a 3-phase evaluation of the Contracts for Difference scheme, reporting on the findings of an impact and process evaluation of Allocation Rounds 1 and 2.

Thursday 12/05 – BEIS and the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs open a consultation calling for evidence to support the development of an update to the UK’s Green Finance Strategy, planned for publication in late 2022.

Wednesday 11/05 – BEIS issues a response to its market-based mechanism for low-carbon heat consultation that ran from 19 October 2021 to 12 January 2022.

Tuesday 10/05 – Standing in for the Queen, the Prince of Wales delivers the Queen’s Speech.

Monday 09/05 – BEIS announces that it is launching a consultation on a proposed expansion of the Warm Home Discount scheme for support in Scotland.


Friday 06/05 – National Grid ESO announces the launch of its new frequency response service, Dynamic Moderation (DM).

Thursday 05/05 – The Scottish Government publishes a summary of the responses received to the call for evidence on regulation of energy efficiency and zero emissions heat in existing non-domestic buildings.

Wednesday 04/05 – UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) publishes a new guide: Delivering Net Zero: Key Considerations for Commercial Retrofit to support industry in retrofitting the UK’s poorly performing commercial buildings.

Tuesday 03/05 – BEIS publishes its response to its consultation, Contracts for Difference (CfD): proposals for changes to supply chain plans and CfD delivery.
