Friday 30/09 – Government updates level of Renewables Obligation for 2023-24.

Thursday 29/09 – BEIS issues a Review of Net Zero: call for evidence. The government announces that it will provide funding of up to £1.5bn, which will deliver upgrades to around 130,000 social housing and low-income properties in England.

Wednesday 28/08 –BEIS issues a consultation seeking to identify whether any new generating technologies, which could participate in future Capacity Market auctions, have emerged since its 2021 consultation.

Tuesday 27/09 – The Climate Change Committee publishes the Net Zero Electricity Market Design report in which an independent expert group made up of industry leaders seeks to contextualise the challenges in meeting the government’s ambitions of fully decarbonised electricity generation by 2035.

Monday 26/09 – BEIS Secretary of State announces that an independent review has been commissioned of the government’s approach to delivering its net zero target.


Friday 23/09 – The Chancellor of the Exchequer releases the Growth Plan 2022 re-iterating a number of announcements and providing costings for the interventions.

Thursday 22/09 – The government announces that it has lifted the moratorium on shale gas production in England and will consider future applications for Hydraulic Fracturing Consent. BEIS issues guidance about the EBRS for electricity suppliers, explaining how they should implement the Energy Bills Support Scheme direction and deliver the scheme.

Wednesday 21/08 –The UK Government publishes the details of its Energy Bill Relief Scheme (EBRS) – which will provide energy bill relief for non-domestic customers in GB.

Tuesday 20/09 – Ofgem issues a call for input on its current approach to reflecting changes to the Balancing Services Use of System (BSUoS) charges in the Default Tariff Cap.

Friday 16/09 – Northern Gas Networks raises UNC824 Appointment of CDSP as the Scheme Administrator for the Energy Price Guarantee (EPG) for Domestic Gas Consumers (Gas).

Thursday 15/09 – Ofgem publishes a Provisional Order (PO) directed to Utilita Energy, following concerns that it may be contravening several licence conditions relating to vulnerable customer support.

Wednesday 14/08 – The European Commission proposes an emergency intervention in Europe’s energy markets to reduce energy bills.

Tuesday 13/09 – National Grid ESO raises urgent modification P446 Energy Price Guarantee Scheme for Domestic Customers to enable Elexon to implement and administer the payment scheme for suppliers as part of the government’s Energy Price Guarantee (EPG) scheme for domestic electricity customers, in its role as the EPG Scheme Administrator.

Thursday 08/09 – Queen Elizabeth II dies. The Prime Minister announces a new ‘Energy Price Guarantee’ to support households and businesses with their energy bills.

Wednesday 07/08 – Ofgem published its decision on changes to Standard Licence Condition (SLC) 47 of the electricity supply licence, which will introduce the necessary data access requirements for the Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS) programme.

Tuesday 06/09 – Prime Minister Liz Truss conducts a cabinet reshuffle.

Monday 05/09 – Liz Truss wins Conservative Party leadership Election.


Friday 02/09 – BEIS announces that it is providing £3.3mn in funding through the Advanced Modular Reactor Research, Development and Demonstration (AMR RD&D) programme to support the development of cutting-edge nuclear technology in the UK.

Thursday 01/09 – The Prime Minister Boris Johnson announces that the UK Government will provide £700mn in the Sizewell C nuclear power plant deal.
