Tuesday 28/02 – The UK Government announces that the Energy Security Secretary Grant Shapps met with his counterpart, the US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm.

Monday 27/02 – Ofgem confirms the Default Tariff Cap for the next cap period (1 April – 30 June 2023) will be set at £3,280 for a dual fuel household paying by direct debit based on typical consumption.


Friday 24/02 – Ofgem releases a consultation on its proposed new approach to the timelines and incentives framework to be applied to the third cap and floor window for interconnectors.

Thursday 23/02 – The government announces a ‘British Industry Supercharger’ policy, providing targeted measures to ensure that the energy costs for UK energy intensive industries (EIIs) are in line with other economies across the world.

Wednesday 22/02 – Defra opens a consultation on the Fourth Round of the Climate Adaptation Reporting Power (ARP4) through which it seeks views on its plan to manage the fourth round of the climate change adaptation reporting.

Tuesday 21/02 – National Grid ESO announces that the T-4 Capacity Market Auction for delivery in 2026-27 has cleared in Round 3 with a clearing price of £63/kW/year – the highest rate for a T-4 auction to date.

Monday 20/02 – The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) issues statistics showing that 1.7mn vouchers were used by households with prepayment meters across GB in January.


Friday 17/02 – Ofgem publishes several decisions regarding the Default Tariff Price Cap. EDF Group publishes its annual results for 2022, reporting an overall sales revenue of €143.5bn, up from €84.5bn.

Thursday 16/02 – Centrica plc releases its preliminary results for the year ended 31 December 2022, reporting a 235% increase in adjusted EBITDA.

Wednesday 15/02 – Ofgem publishes a letter to suppliers, providing an update on its review of prepayment meter (PPM) installation practices proposed earlier this month.

Tuesday 14/02 – National Grid ESO announces the results of the T-1 Capacity Market Auction for delivery year 2023-24.

Monday 13/02 – The UK Government announces it is providing £12.4mn funding to help the most energy intensive industries find ways to reduce their carbon emissions, while improving their energy efficiency.


Friday 10/02 – The government reports that, following Energy Security Secretary Grant Shapps’ recent intervention, all energy suppliers have now committed to ending the forced installation of prepayment meters (PPMs).

Thursday 09/02 – The government announces its plans to introduce a low carbon hydrogen certificate scheme by 2025 to help verify the sustainability of low carbon hydrogen and build transparency and confidence across the sector

Wednesday 08/02 – The government announces that next generation energy innovators will receive a £24mn cash boost to develop new technologies that will decarbonise UK industry, build home-grown energy supplies and help prepare the country for a net zero future

Tuesday 07/02 – The government announces it will establish a number of new departments, with some designed to replace aspects of the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

Monday 06/02 – The UK Government announces that GB households who do not use mains gas for heating will start receiving £200 towards their energy bills as the Alternative Fuel Payment (AFP) scheme.


Friday 03/02 – Ofgem publishes its decision to extend the end date of the Market Stabilisation Charge (MSC) and Ban on Acquisition-only Tariffs (BAT) to 31 March 2024.

Thursday 02/02 – The Climate Change Committee (CCC) announces that it has published a new report titled Investment for a well-adapted UK, through which it argues that ‘a lack of leadership is preventing essential investment to prepare the UK for climate change.’

Wednesday 01/02 – The Crown Estate publishes the second annual report 2022 for the Offshore Wind Evidence and Change Programme, in partnership with BEIS and Defra.
