Thursday 31/08 – DESNZ announces that it is proposing new measures to boost the rollout of heat pumps by making them cheaper and easier to install. As part of a cabinet reshuffle, the Prime Minister’s Office announces that Claire Coutinho MP has been appointed as Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.

Wednesday 30/08 – Ofgem publishes the supplier administration guidance for the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS).

Tuesday 29/08 – National Grid ESO reports that it has published its Electricity Ten Year Statement (ETYS) 2023.

Friday 25/08 – Ofgem announces that Default Tariff Cap level will be set at £1,923 for cap period 11a (1 October to 31 December 2023) for a dual fuel household paying by direct debit based on the current typical domestic consumption values (TDCVs).

Thursday 24/08 – The government publishes its response to its September 2021 Re-coupling Great Britain electricity auctions for cross-border trade consultation.

Wednesday 23/08 – The government issues its response to its July 2022 Future policy framework for power with carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS) call for evidence.

Tuesday 22/08 – Ofgem publishes its decision regarding the administration of the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS).

Monday 21/08 – Ofgem publishes the annual report on the operation of the Capacity Market for 2022-23. This report covers the delivery year 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2023, within which the 2022-23 T-1 and the 2022-23 T-4 auctions were scheduled. Ofgem publishes its decision to open compliance engagement with OVO Energy’s licensed supply companies (OVO).


Friday 18/08 – Ofgem publishes its decisions confirming that Greenlink Interconnector Limited and BBL Company V.O.F. have been compliant with the ownership unbundling requirements.

Thursday 17/08 – Ofgem issues a call for input on engaging domestic consumers in energy flexibility.

Wednesday 16/08 – DESNZ publishes its Exemptions from the requirement to hold a Carbon Dioxide Transport and Storage Licence call for evidence.

Tuesday 15/08 – Ofgem responds to the Strategic and Policy Statement (SPS) consultation published by DESNZ.

Monday 14/08 – DESNZ publishes its net zero business sector roadmap guidelines and launches its UK Business Climate Hub.


Friday 11/08 – DESNZ announces plans to launch a £10mn Community Energy Fund to support rural and urban communities across England in setting up local renewable energy projects.

Thursday 10/08 – DESNZ publishes its Biomass Strategy 2023, setting out the role that sustainable biomass can play in reaching net zero, what the government is doing to enable that objective, and where further action is needed.

Wednesday 09/08 – Ofgem publishes a call for input on the development of a competition framework for the domestic retail market.

Tuesday 08/08 – DESNZ announces projects which have received funding through the Smart Metering Internet of Things System (SMIOTS) scheme.

Monday 07/08 – The Welsh Government announces the launch of Ynni Cymru, a publicly owned energy company for Wales.


Friday 04/08 – DESNZ publishes the independent recommendations from the UK’s Electricity Networks Commissioner, Nick Winser, which outline how to accelerate the deployment of electricity transmission infrastructure.

Thursday 03/08 – The Energy Security Secretary Grant Shapps announces a £22mn increase for the Contracts for Difference scheme – taking the total budget to £227mn for the fifth Allocation Round (AR5).

Wednesday 02/08 – The Department for Transport announces two winning projects from the second phase of its £8mn competition through which it aims to support hydrogen-powered transport in the North East.

Tuesday 01/08 – Ofgem publishes a call for input on the impact of high inflation on the network price control operations. DESNZ publishes its August 2023 Hydrogen Strategy Update to the Market – a summary of hydrogen policy development and schemes since the last update to the market in December 2022.

Monday 31/07 – The Prime Minister confirms that hundreds of new North Sea oil and gas licences will be granted in the UK, as part of a joint commitment between the government and the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) to undertake future licensing rounds.
