Thursday 30/11 – DESNZ publishes the outcome of its consultation looking at the design of a market-based mechanism to support the development of the UK’s low-carbon electric heat pump market.

Wednesday 29/11 –Ofgem publishes its decision allowing National Grid Electricity System Operator to delay publishing the Electricity Ten Year Statement appendices and the Networks Options Assessment to 31 March 2024.

Tuesday 28/11 – The Environmental Audit Committee publishes a new report, The financial sector and the UK’s net zero transition.

Monday 27/11 – The government publishes a summary report for Phase 3b of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. Under the scheme, the government provides grants for public sector bodies to fund heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures.


Friday 24/11 – The Energy Security and Net Zero (ESNZ) Committee announces that it has opened a new inquiry investigating the process of billing customers for their gas and electricity.

Thursday 23/11 – Ofgem announces that the Default Tariff Cap level will be set at £1,928 for cap period 11b (1 January to 31 March 2024) for a dual fuel household paying by direct debit based on the 2023 typical domestic consumption values (TDCVs).

Wednesday 22/11 – The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Jeremy Hunt, presents the government’s Autumn Statement 2023, containing announcements related to the energy industry.

Tuesday 21/11 – The Business and Trade Committee publishes a report, Batteries for electric vehicle manufacturing. DESNZ announces successful projects in the Flex Markets Unlocked Innovation Programme, which aims to support the design and development of innovative technical solutions that can facilitate system-wide coordination and standardisation across multiple flexibility markets.

Monday 20/11 – DESNZ announces that Wave 2.2 of the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) has opened to applications.


Friday 17/11 – Ofgem publishes its decision to approve R0083 Changes to Supply Number Format for Market-wide Half Hourly Settlement (MHHS) and reject R0083A Changes to Supply Number Format for MHHS.

Thursday 16/11 – DESNZ announces that the maximum strike price has been increased by 66% for offshore wind projects, from £44/MWh to £73/MWh, and by 52% for floating offshore wind projects, from £116/MWh to £176/MWh ahead of Allocation Round 6 of the Contracts for Difference scheme next year.

Wednesday 15/11 – The Public Accounts Committee publishes a new report, Support for innovation to deliver net zero, calling for the government to set out a detailed long-term plan to achieve net zero by 2050.

Tuesday 14/11 – DESNZ reports it has opened Round 6 of the Heat Network Efficiency Scheme.

Monday 13/11 – DESNZ publishes a call for evidence which will support policy development in ensuring the Offshore Transmission Owner regime remains fit for purpose in the long term. It is also looking for evidence on how to ensure the continued delivery of offshore wind to meet the UK’s net zero target.


Friday 10/11 – The government announces funding of more than £200mn to support colleges and universities to offer more training opportunities in key industries, such as the growing green sector.

Thursday 09/11 – Ofgem publishes a press release stating that energy suppliers British Gas, OVO, Bulb, E.ON, Scottish Power and SSE will pay out a total of £10.8mn after missing smart meter installation targets for 2022.

Wednesday 08/11 – Ofgem publishes a consultation seeking views on its position on the DCC’s costs for Regulatory Year (RY) 2022-23. On the cost assessment, Ofgem’s position is that £12.482mn of the DCC’s internal costs incurred in RY22-23, which consists of elements such as the procurement of external services, are unacceptable.

Tuesday 07/11 – King Charles delivers his first King’s Speech and the Prime Minister’s Office publishes briefing notes on the announcements made therein.

Monday 06/11 – Ofgem publishes a letter setting out its expectations for non-domestic suppliers going into this winter, as well as updating stakeholders on the progress and direction of the market review and subsequent policy development.


Friday 03/11 – DESNZ reports that the UK Government has signed a partnership with the German Government with the aim of securing safe, affordable, and clean energy for consumers and improving the energy security of both nations.

Thursday 02/11 – The Office for National Statistics publishes Energy efficiency of housing in England and Wales: 2023.

Wednesday 01/11 – The Public Accounts Committee publishes a report on Bulb’s Special Administration Regime and the recovery of its costs.

Tuesday 31/10 – The government announces that millions of people across the country are set to receive significant cost of living support ahead of winter.

Monday 30/10 – DESNZ publishes evaluation findings from surveys and interviews with households participating in the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme (Phases 2t and 3) between 2020 and 2022. Ofgem publishes a report setting out its key findings from assessing the potential impacts of introducing locational wholesale pricing in GB. DESNZ publishes the outcome of its consultation on hydrogen production and industrial carbon capture business models.
