Thursday 28/03 – DESNZ and Ofgem issue a joint consultation on seeking views on two Ofgem regulated licences for the National Energy System Operator.

Wednesday 27/03 – National Grid Electricity Systems Operator publishes its 2024-25 Innovation Strategy.

Tuesday 26/03 – Ofgem publishes a statutory consultation on proposed modifications to the Diversions and Loss of Development Claims Re-opener within the gas transporter licence.

Monday 25/03 – Ofgem publishes a discussion paper focusing on future price protection options for domestic consumers.


Friday 22/03 – The Department for Transport announces that 25 councils across England will receive £143mn of funding to deliver 955 zero emission buses.

Thursday 21/03 – The UK Government publishes a consultation seeking views on proposals for the design and administration of the UK carbon border adjustment mechanism, which it aims to implement from 1 January 2027.

Wednesday 20/03 –The Climate Change Committee announces that it no longer believes that the Scottish Government will meet its statutory 2030 goal to reduce emissions by 75%.

Tuesday 19/03 – National Grid Electricity Systems Operator publishes a report, Beyond 2030, which recommends an additional £58bn investment into the electricity grid to meet growing demand for decarbonised electricity. The Green Alliance publishes the March 2024 update for its Net zero policy tracker, which monitors the government’s progress towards the goals it set out in the Net Zero Strategy.

Monday 18/03 – The National Audit Office publishes a report examining the progress DESNZ has made in decarbonising home heating since the government published its Heat and Buildings Strategy in 2021.


Friday 15/03 – Ofgem publishes its decision to approve CMP427 Update to the Transmission Connection Application Process for Onshore Applicants, for implementation on 28 March 2024.

Thursday 14/03 – The UK Government opens a consultation inviting views on plans to adjust the date of the Clean Heat Market Mechanism scheme launch to 1 April 2025. The government publishes its response to its August 2023 consultation on proposed amendments to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme Regulations.

Wednesday 13/03 – The government publishes its response to a consultation on proposed changes for the sixth allocation round (of the Contracts for Difference scheme. The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee issues a report on long-duration energy storage technologies.

Tuesday 12/03 –The government publishes the second consultation on the Review of Electricity Market Arrangements (REMA) and also releases a statement, as part of the REMA consultation, committing to support the building of new gas power stations.

Monday 11/03 – DESNZ and Ofgem issue a joint consultation on proposed code governance reforms covering code manager licensing and secondary legislation.


Friday 08/03 – Consumer Scotland publishes its response to the Scottish Government’s November 2023 consultation on a Heat in Buildings Bill.

Thursday 07/03 – DESNZ publishes its Public Attitudes Tracker for winter 2023.

Wednesday 06/03 – The government delivers its Spring Budget. The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities publishes its response to its July 2023 consultation on Operational reforms to the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects consenting process.

Tuesday 05/03 – Ofgem publishes its decision on the RIIO-ED1 Stakeholder Engagement and Consumer Vulnerability Incentive for the 2022-23 regulatory year.

Monday 04/03 – The Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt announces up to £120mn will be given to the Green Industries Growth Accelerator to further support expansion of low carbon manufacturing supply chains across the UK.


Friday 01/03 – DESNZ announces the projects it has selected to advance to Phase 2 and 3 of the Non-Domestic Smarter Tariff Comparisons Innovation Programme.
